Three Worcester swimmers traveled up to Sheffield last week to compete in the 6-day long British Gas sponsored National Championships: Tabitha Monkhouse, James Marsh and Robin Williams.
The standard of swimming was exceptional with many world class swimmers there including several Commonwealth Games medalists plus Plymouth-based Olympic Champion Ruta Meilutyte who posted the fastest time in the World this year in the 100m Breaststroke!
This was one of the three events Tabitha qualified for and as in 2013, she moved up the Rankings, making it into the Semi Finals of the 17/18 age group, where she swam just 4 lanes over from Ruta, a great experience. She finished a highly creditable 16th overall in the 100m event, just 0.01 seconds outside her Personal Best time.
James was also in fine form at his first ASA Nationals. He produced an excellent PB in the 200m Breaststroke to move up from 39th to 28th, reward for all his hard work, and will look to do even better next year when he will still be in the same 17/18 age group
In the 19 and over age group, Robin swam beautifully and managed to dip under 57 seconds again for his 100m Butterfly but such was the standard of competition this year that he had to settle for 22nd.
