Worcester made a solid start to the defence of the PGL League title it won in 2014 with a promising 2nd place in Round 1 at Bromsgrove on Saturday 7th February.

The League provides an opportunity for swimmers below County standard to compete for their Clubs and gives younger swimmers the chance to record Personal Best Times on 25m & 50m events.

Worcester’s swimmers were in fine form with 8 “speeding tickets” for going faster than the allowed standard for this level of competition.

The 13/14’s led the charge with Craig Strachan (50m Butterfly), James Clews (50m Breaststroke) and Emily Caldwell (50m Breaststroke) all swimming great PB’s and earning impressive ST’s…whilst in the 12’s, Abigail Moore (50m Backstroke) and Josie Armstrong (50m Butterfly) stormed to massive new best times.

In the younger age groups where the swimmers compete over just 25m, there were also 3 ST’s…Maisie Lyons making her debut for the Clib produced a stunning 23.67 in the 9’s Breaststroke whilst Henry Halford (10’s Backstroke) and Lottie Martin (11’s Freestyle) showcased their talents wonderfully with PB’s and ST’s too.

Overall, the Club recorded 19 first places in the 60 events, including terrific individual wins for Jacob Smith (9’s Backstroke), Jessica Dobson (9’s Butterfly), Milo Reed (10’s Freestyle), Lydia Cooper (10’s Butterfly), Betsy Richards (10’s Freestyle), Megan Williams (10’s Breaststroke), Daniel Kearley (11’s Freestyle), Natasha Dobson (11’s Butterfly) and Sam Pickess (12’s Breaststroke).

However, in a really tight, exciting and often very nosiy (!) gala, the Club was just pipped for first place by Wyre Forest. The final points were: Wyre Forest 155, Worcester 147, Evesham 143, Cheltenham 118.
