Nine Worcester swimmers travelled to the brand new pool in Nottingham for the Midland Winter Short Course Championships on 7/8th November 2015.

As always, the standard of swimming was exceptionally high… with Loughborough University raising the bar even higher this year by bringing a large squad of their high performers.

As a result, medals were hard to come by with only Anthony Redfern making the podium. After solid swims in the 100m and 200m Freestyle, he produced a Personal Best time in both the heats and the then again in the final of the 50m Freestyle, his stunning 23.26 earning him Bronze and critically a place at the National Short course Championships in Sheffield in December.

Joining him there after their performances at Nottingham will also be Robin Williams, Sam Hall and Olivia Fletcher.

Robin swam brilliantly at the Midland Championships. After a serious illness and much missed training, he still managed to make the Finals of the 50m Butterfly, 100m Butterfly and 100m Freestyle, his 55.65 for the 100m Butterfly his second best time ever and a qualifying time for Nationals!

Sam will be competing in two events at Sheffield. Having missed out on qualifying for the 100m & 200m Breaststroke events in which he excelled at Summer Nationals, by just 0.15 and 1.5 seconds, he showed real determination to secure a place on the 50m Breaststroke and 100m Individual Medley will excellent Personal Best times.

Also going to Nationals on the 100m IM will be Olivia Fletcher… just 12 years old, she produced a brilliant 1.08.6 to qualify for Sheffield and finish an amazing 16th in the open age group at Midlands.

The other Worcester swimmers to compete at the Midland Championships were Lucy Clayton, Sophie Groves, Charlotte Hall, William Hadley and Ben Holmes… all performed really well, on or around their PBs, enjoying the opportunity to test themselves against the best in the Region.
