WELCOME BY THE PRESIDENT

You are now part of a thriving, successful club, whichever section you have joined you are now part of a team that works to improve swimming at all levels. We have swimmers who are now swimming at national level who started out with the club in the teaching pool at about 5 years of age.

How is this achieved? At the top end of the club we have a Chief Coach who acts as a mentor and motivator for the senior swimmers, next in line is the Junior Coach who does the same for the younger part of the Competitive section. Alongside these are a large number of qualified, volunteer Assistant Coaches, Teachers, Assistant Teachers and Poolside Helpers. All of which are vital to the successful progression of swimmers through the Club from 5 years old to University age, and beyond. That’s not all, because this team of volunteers extends beyond the poolside to roles such as Membership, Publicity, Fixtures, Finance, and Officials etc.

In case you were wondering where all these volunteers come from, just about every one of them starts out as a swimmer’s parent who feels they can help out in some way. That’s what happened to me. I can remember it quite clearly. My eldest daughter was about 8 years old, swimming lengths in the main pool with me watching from the balcony. The session was just finishing and the teacher was just starting to get the lane ropes out and needed a bit of help, saw me watching and called me down. I think that was the point where Worcester Swimming Club became my second home. Now our daughters are both at University and neither of them swims competitively anymore, but they are both very competent swimmers, which was what we wanted as parents all those years ago.

So, once again, welcome to the team, swimmers and parents. I hope you find it as enjoyable as I have.
