President's Welcome

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Worcester Swimming Club.

We are a thriving, successful club and regardless of whichever squad you may join you will be part of a team that works to improve swimming at all levels. We aim to give swimmers the best opportunity to develop their skills to the best of their ability.  Some of our Senior swimmers, who are National standard started out with the club in the teaching pool at about 5 years of age.

How is this achieved? At the top end of the club we have a Head Coach who acts as a mentor and motivator for the all our swimmers, he is helped and supported by a team of qualified coaches, teacher and poolside Helpers. All of which are vital to our successful progression of swimmers through the Club from 5 years old to University age, and beyond.

That’s not all, because this team of volunteers extends beyond the poolside to roles such as Membership, Publicity, Fixtures, Finance, and Officials etc.

In case you were wondering where all these volunteers come from, just about every one of them starts out as a swimmer’s parent who feels they can help out in some way. That’s what happened to me. I can remember it quite clearly. My eldest daughter was about 8 years old, swimming lengths in the main pool with me watching from the balcony. The session was just finishing and the teacher was just starting to get the lane ropes out and needed a bit of help, saw me watching and called me down. I think that was the point where Worcester Swimming Club became my second home. Now our daughters are both at University and neither of them swims competitively anymore, but they are both very competent swimmers, which was what we wanted as parents all those years ago.

So, once again, welcome to the team, swimmers and parents. I hope you find it as enjoyable as I have.
