Worcester’s Winter Warmer

The Worcestershire Winter Swim League is a unique opportunity for teams from across the county to pit their skills against each other in three rounds of exhilarating swimming.

Each round consists of 40 races, in male and female age groups from under 11’s to the open category.  All four swim strokes (freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke) are raced individually.  There is also a 6-length free style relay and the four strokes are also combined in a 6-length medley relay – the relays combine both boys and girl, to showcase the best of team dynamics.

Such is the level of competition in the county, each round is split into three events, and this, the first event of the competition was a befitting opener, which saw Worcester A take top honours, with Worcester B take a very credible fourth place.

Worcester A U11 boys saw David Annis take 1^st place in the 50m backstroke (37.55) and, 2^nd in the 50m butterfly (34.94); William Pridden took 4^th place in the 50m freestyle (37.29); while Milo Reed claimed 2^nd place in the 50m breaststroke (46.02).

In the Worcester A U11 girls team, Ciara Mahanta finished 3^rd in the 50m freestyle (34.98); Maisie Lyons came 2^nd in the 50m breaststroke (42.99); Bryony Lowe took 2^nd place in the 50m backstroke (38.18); while Jess Dobson secured 3^rd place in the 50 butterfly (38.63).

Worcester A U11 mixed medley relay consisted of Bryony Lowe, Milo Reed, Maisie Lyons, David Annis, Ciara Mahanta, William Pridden, who between them secured a well fought 1^st place (1.48.45).  While the freestyle relay was swum by Bryony Lowe, Milo Reed, Jess Dobson, William Pridden, Cirara Mahanta, David Annis and they also took 1^st place (1.37.37).

The Worcester A U13 boys all achieved great 2^nd place finishes: Louis Doyle 100m backstroke (1.12.04); Daniel Day 100m freestyle (1.01.34); George Glover (1.23.78); Brodie Willetts 100m butterfly (1.13.20).

While the Worcester A U13 girls kept the scoreboard ticking over with a 1^st place for Megan Annis in the 100m backstroke (1.07.64); a 3^rd place for Natasha Dobson in the 100m butterfly (1.16.59); Hannah Dixon came 4^th in the 100m breaststroke (1.29.11); ending with a 2^nd place from Becky Yates in the 100m freestyle (1.05.23).

Worcester A U13 mixed medley relay team consisted of Becky Yates, George Glover, Hannah Dixon, Brodie Willetts, Megan Annis, Louis Doyle, who between them secured a well fought 1^st place (1.34.18).  While the freestyle relay was swum by Natasha Dobson, Louis Doyle, Hannah Dixon, Brodie Willetts, Mega Annis, Daniel Day and they also took 1^st place (1.24.54).

Worcester A U15 boys saw Kai Gooden-Morris take 2^nd place in the 100m freestyle (58.01) and, 2^nd in the 100m breaststroke (1.13.46); Matt Richards took 1^st place in the 100m butterfly (1.01.58); while Alex Farmer took 1^st place in the 100m backstroke (1.05.78).

In the Worcester A U15 girls team, Sophie Davis finished 3^rd in the 100m freestyle (1.04.18); Charlotte Hall came 1^st in the 100m butterfly (1.08.87); Lilly Merrell took 1^st place in the 100m breaststroke (1.19.12); while Amber Harrison secured 4^th spot in the 100 backstroke (1.14.78).

Worcester A U15 mixed medley relay consisted on Olivier Fletcher, Kai Gooden-Morris, Lilly Merrell, Matt Richards, Charlotte Hall, Alex Farmer, who between them secured a well fought 1^st place (1.25.80).  While the freestyle relay was swum by Amber Harrison, Kai Gooden-Morris, Sophie Davis, Alex Farmer, Naomi Marsden, Matt Richards and they also took 1^st place (1.19.58).

Worcester A Open boys saw Oscar Van Vuren take 3^rd place in the 100m butterfly (1.09.22); Alex Westwood took 1^st in the 100m backstroke (1.00.78) and 100m freestyle (54.18); while Anthony Redfern secured 1^st place in the 100m breaststroke (1.06.67).

In the Worcester A Open girls team, Yasemin Tayar finished 2^nd in the 100m butterfly (1.04.18); Naomi Marsden came 2^nd in the 100m backstroke (1.08.46); Olivier Fletcher took 2^nd place in the 100m freestyle (59.50); while Lucy Clayton secured 1^st place in the 100 breaststrokes (1.15.22).

Worcester A Open mixed medley relay consisted on Amber Harrison, Anthony Redfern, Lucy Clayton, Alex Westwood, Sophie Davis, Oscar Van Vuren, who between them secured a well fought 1^st place (1.25.57).  While the freestyle relay was swum by Charlotte Hall, Alex Westwood, Yasemin Tayar, Oscar Van Vuren, Olivia Fletcher, Anthony Redfern and they also took 1^st place (1.14.73).

Worcester B U11 boys saw Oliver Dieppe take 5^th place in the 50m freestyle (38.12); Harry Chandler finished 3^rd in the 50m backstroke (42.87); Michael Agoston took 3^rd place in the 50m butterfly (42.18); while William Thomas claimed 5^th place in the 50m breaststroke (50.75).

In the Worcester B U11 girls team, Issy Wilkinson finished 2^nd in the 50m freestyle (33.63); Olivia Eggleton came 3^rd in the 50m breaststroke (45.00); Emma McKay took 3^rd place in the 50m backstroke (40.63); while Izzy Foster secured 4^th place in the 50 butterfly (41.50).

Worcester B U11 mixed medley relay consisted of Issy Wilkinson, William Thomas, Olivia Eggleton, Michael Agoston, Emma McKay, Henry Chandler, who between them secured a well fought 1^st place (1.54.00).  While the freestyle relay was swum by Emma McKay, Michael Agoston, Izzy Foster, Olivia Dieppe, Issy Wilkinson, William Thomas and they took 3^rd place (1.41.43).

Worcester B U13 boys saw Isaac Shepherd took 4^th place in the 100m butterfly (1.23.13); Owen Kirby took 3^rd place in the 100m breaststroke (1.25.69); while Kieran Cooper took 1^st place in the 100m freestyle (1.04.62).

For the Worcester B U13 girls a 2^nd place for Lauren Annis in the 100m breaststroke (1.25.00); a 4^th place for Georgia Hill in the 100m freestyle (1.05.81); Izzy Trow came 4^th in the 100m backstroke (1.18.50) and a 5^th place in the 100m butterfly (1.22.93).

Worcester B U13 mixed medley relay consisted on Izzy Trow, Owen Kirby, Lauren Annis, Isaac Shepherd, Georgia Hill, Kieran Cooper, who between them secured a well fought 3^rd place (1.39.44).

Worcester B U15 boys saw Harvey Lloyd take 4^th place in the 100m freestyle (1.00.00); Matthew Thomas finished 2^nd in both the 100m butterfly (1.04.31) and 100m backstroke (1.05.81); while Sam Hartley took 4^th place in the 100m breaststroke (1.22.93).

In the Worcester B U15 girls team, Jenny Gearey finished 1^st in the 100m freestyle (1.01.25); Emily West came 3^rd in the 100m breaststroke (1.25.13); Amy Cooper took 3^rd place in the 100m butterfly (1.11.32); while Heather Castle secured 3^rd spot in the 100 backstroke (1.12.50).

Worcester B U15 mixed medley relay consisted on Jenny Gearey, Sam Hartley, Emily West, Matthew Thomas, Josie Armstrong, Harvey Lloyd, who between them secured a well fought 3^rd place (1.29.57).  While the freestyle relay was swum by Jenney Gearey, Matthew Thomas, Heather Castle, Harvey Lloyd, Amy Cooper, Sam Hartley taking 2^nd place (1.21.44).

Worcester B Open boys saw Sam Hall take 2^nd place in both the 100m butterfly (1.01.62) and 100m backstroke (1.04.31) and 100m freestyle (54.18); Ben Holmes finished 2^nd in the 100m freestyle (56.50); while Robert Latta secured 3^rd place in the 100m breaststroke (1.15.13).

In the Worcester B Open girls team, Laura Hill finished 3^rd in the 100m butterfly (1.10.38); Ellie McGinnes came 3^rd in the 100m backstroke (1.11.81); Josie Armstrong took 3^rd place in the 100m freestyle (1.03.93); while Charlotte Yates secured 2^nd place in the 100 breaststrokes (1.19.94).

Worcester B Open mixed medley relay consisted on Jenny Gearey, Sam Hartley, Emily West, Matthew Thomas, Josie Armstrong, Harvey LLoyd, who between them secured a well fought 3^rd place (1.27.75).  While the freestyle relay was swum by Lauren Hill, Ben Holmes, Ellie McGinnes, Sam Hall, Charlotte Yates, Robert Latta and they took 2^nd place (1.18.38).
